My bounty from Saturday's Berkeley Farmers' Market: heirloom carrots, red potatoes, summer squash, radishes, tomatoes, and two of the most delicious peaches to have ever been grown. Some of these went into a downright delicious dinner last night, and the remainder will be enjoyed for the rest of the week. That is, until I can return next week and plunder the riches of California's locally farmed produce even more.

Mouthwatering Monday
This past weekend we celebrated Mike's Birthday with a day of treats. I made him these red velvet cupcakes [yum!] topped with cream cheese icing and sprinkles. If you are up to the task and willing to risk a bloodstained kitchen, these cupcakes are a great guilty pleasure.
This recipe, along with many other delicious baked goods, came from the online blog Pinch My Salt. Blogger Nicole has some very sweet and well guided recipes that everyone is sure to love.
These cupcakes have a delicate chocolate flavor and a strong punch of red color. I have learned how to be VERY careful with the two bottles of red food coloring in the recipe that give the batter its brilliant color. Now what are you waiting for? Get out and bake!!
